Every Penny Counts

I've been trying to come up with ideas on how to amass as much funding as possible for South Africa. The more I think about it, the more I realize just how intangible a year in Cape Town is financially. And that thought scares me because I refuse to give in and settle for only a semester. So far I've come up with two pretty decent fundraising ideas: send out donation letters to local businesses and have a bake sale in the University Center and/or one in the Foreign Language Department. I emailed Susan Henry in the UC who handles events such as fundraising and she said that as long as I can find sponsorship by a club I am good to go. I'm hoping Avant Garde (Tech's French club) will be able to sponsor me. So I guess at this point my plan will just be to bake a bunch of cupcakes, brownies, etc and sell them for let's say a dollar each. It will be a synch to turn at least a bit of profit and hopefully I'll get a pretty substantial profit at that. As for the donation letters, I don't know how those will go in this economy, but it's worth the effort I believe. I might even try to do some sort of fundraising at Wal-Mart. You know, how people stand outside the doors and ask for donations. I hate that, but hell, I'll do it if it means I'm that much closer to being financially sound in terms for studying abroad.

If you have any other ideas, then send them my way!

Much love!
